Manhattan Projects is an all-star group co-led by Carl Allen (drums) and Vincent Herring (alto sax). On this CD, the sextet pays tribute to the late altoist, Cannonball Adderley. Herring is uniquely qualified for this date, as he held the saxophonist's chair in the band of brother, Nat Adderley, for many years. The band features superstar trumpeter Nicholas Payton, TanaReid's Mark Turner on tenor sax, and Betty Carter accompanist Xavier Davis on piano. The material consists of many of the tunes closely associated with the great Cannonball.
